The first rechargeable electric automobile was produced in 1884 by French inventor Camille Alphonse Faure. Faure's electric car had a range of approximately 50 miles and could be recharged in just a few hours. Other early electric cars were produced in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but they were expensive and had limited range. It wasn't until the mid-20th century that rechargeable electric cars became more popular.
