Mclaren Racing Limited was founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren. He was a New Zealand race car driver and constructor who had set up his own team after leaving the Cooper Car Company. The team's first car, the M1, was built in 1964 and entered in the British Formula One Championship. The team achieved its first victory in 1968 with Bruce McLaren himself at the wheel.
